First off i'll state by saying that Avatar is a third person shooter, nothing more nothing less. But, Gears of War, and Lost Planet(which this game compares a lot to, in gameplay terms) is exactly what they are. You see the enemy, shoot, kill, collect items, reach checkpoints, rid in vehicles, do missions. Avatar is just that, the one thing that makes this game stand out among the others is its shear beauty, and atmosphere, i mean the graphics are just second to none especially on the PC version. The detailing Ubisoft put into this game in working along side James Cameron himself is just stellar, and you find yourself just wanting to take in the sights, even though theres really not much time for it. Basically anything that moves(plants, spores, strange explosive type flowers) are considered your enemy and you gain points and ugrgades from doing so. The enemies are quite unique also to say the least, the hammerhead creature is a favorite of mine, and towers over you much like a giant Jurassic creature straight from the movies, and is so realistic you nearly wet yourself. Most of the animals other than that are pretty easy to kill, the vyperwolfs however run amuck allll over the place and can be difficult to aim down. Many reviews have dogged not only the game but also the aiming accuracy, which isnt true, you just have to be quicker than your opponent, and i guess they just stink at shooting things. Also many critics have said how bad moving around in vehicles is, this i just don't get, i think they are just as good as Halo, or Gears or anything else you do battle in machines. The mechs remind you a lot of lost planet, as do a lot of the collection of items from killing foliage. Its also fun to play as the Na'vi or however you spell it, although most of your killing consists of bow shooting, and melee with a giant club, its still pretty solid for battle. Even though i myself prefer the marines. So by all means if you have the money and want to spend it, and are a fan of Lost Planet, or Gears of War, then pick this up, of course just because of the popularity and selling status of those large titles, is the reason the average rating for this game was 6.5. Don't listen to critics, check out that most actual, "players" of the game gave it an 8.6, and you should listen to people who play the game all the way through, not critics who play it once for a while and judge it based on there opinion because it doesnt sell hugely. They call it repetitive i call it innovative and a good source for fun in the strange land of Pandora, quite a beautiful creative place. And hey it beats just going around killing zombies, and waiting for more to do the same when your done, hmm isnt that repetition? Yep.

NOTE:If you have the gear get it on PC, this version looks stellar, but on PC with direct x 10 and ultra high settings it just looks Godly.:D

First, let's get this clear...I am not a die hard racing gamer. I don't have that much time. I wish I did but I don't. I have long said that the ideal game experience provided for two kinds of gamers. The game should provide that hard-earned sense of accomplishment for those fortunate to have the skills and time to earn their way to the top. More power to them. But hang on. I still spent $60 for this game and I should have a way to get access to all it offers too (or at least most of it). I want a game provides for both.

Sure, there needs to be a way to tell whether someone earned it or just switched it on. But don't force me to spend hour-after-hour trying to earn level after level. I don't have that much time to devote to a game. I know that some would say that if I don't have the time, I shouldn't buy the game. But I think there are many people like me so it should be a win-win.

This is why I like this game so much. It lets me enjoy the fun of just jumping in some really cool cars and taking laps around really cool tracks. It has assists that allow me to enjoy the limited time I have with the game to the max.

And for those that might not consider this, it puts this game in the reach of my son, who is developmentally disadvantaged. It allows us to enjoy it together.

Let's see - great car selection, great track, great flexibility in how to configure it to play - all add up to a great game.

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection

By Jason M Ritenour -  reviews

I never had a Genesis, so I missed out on a lot of great games. I've played the first Sonic, and some of these games in the arcade, but overall, I never got to experience the glory days of Sega. Also, it's hard to find PS3 games that appeal to my fiance, and she was excited at the prospect of playing Ecco the Dolphin & the Sonic games again.

There are nearly 50 games on here, and when you consider how much the various games would cost on the Wii virtual console, or Xbox Live arcade, this is an amazing deal. Even at $60, this would be a great deal, but at $30, it's a no brainer.

The presentation is pretty slick, the main menu looks like a Genesis unit, and the games are a stack of cartridges you sort through. You can rate games on a 5 star scale, and then sort them in the order you rated them, so your least favorite games will fall to the bottom of the list.

The only complaint I have is that the line "all titles have been converted to high def" is wrong and misleading. A filter has been applied to make the games look better at a higher resolution, nothing has been reworked or remade to take advantage of HD. The good thing is you can switch between 4:3 and 16:9 on the fly, and turn the filter off if you want. I will say that the games on this collection have looked a lot better than their Virtual Console counterparts on my TV.

Overall, you can't go wrong with this collection. Whether you're an old Genesis lover wanting a trip down memory lane, or someone who missed out on Sega's golden age and want to see what all the hype was about, this is a must-buy.

By A Customer

Let's face it. If you are a Pokemon fan, you _will_ buy this game, if you don't already have it, and it doesn't matter in the slightest what I or anyone else has to say about it.

Personally, I'm not a Pokemon fan; like most grownups, I find the TV series to be way too cloying and cutesy, and I have an overwhelming urge to flee the room whenever I'm serenaded by some child's cries of "Pika! Pika!" I expected a game filled with the little critters to be about as much fun as an all-night Barney movie marathon.

But I have to tell you that I was very pleasantly surprised. Don't get me wrong: Pokemon Red and Blue are still cute games, but it's cuteness at a very bearable, adult-accessible level. And you'll find yourself playing a very enjoyable, approachable game, with a surprising depth of play. There's a lot of fun involved in capturing and developing your Poke-army, and a lot of strategy in deciding the best set of techniques to obtain and develop.

You'll have a good time. And if you're not careful, you may even find yourself negotiating Pokemon trades with your next-door neighbor's kids.

Gamecube Microcon Wireless Controller

Gamecube Microcon Wireless Controller (Colors May Vary)

By J. Fulmer "jfulmer" -  reviews

I bought this as a Gamecube and Virtual Console controller for my Wii, with which it works very well. The controller functions right out of the box, is nicely responsive, and just works. Most of the buttons are solid enough, the thumb stick works very well, and the price was certainly right. The grips are hard plastic and the controller itself is lightweight.

After using it for a few weeks (and through two games, the excellent 'Beyond Good and Evil' and 'Metroid Prime'), I have two criticisms, both of which have been mentioned in Amazon reviews.

First, it is very small for an adult. While I don't worry too much about it being hard to reach the 'start' button (I'd rather not accidentally hit it, so I consider this a 'feature'), the A/B/X/Y buttons are very close together for my big thumb, and I'm always accidentally hitting the X button instead of the Y. The Left and Right shoulder buttons feel cheap, but they work well.

Second, after the beating I've given it with 'Metroid Prime', The analog sticks are (reasonably enough) starting to drift a bit.. (ED. After a bit of playing, I found if you unplug the wireless plug from the Wii, and then plug it back in, the controller recalibrates. Putting the Wii in standby mode doesn't do it, since the gamecube ports are still powered. Also, you must make sure the controller is switched on before you start the gamecube game, or the sticks will be off..)

All and all, it seems to be a decent product and unless the stick problem gets worse (ED. It's fine..) I'd definitely buy it for a younger child to beat up. Or if an extra $10 makes a big difference.

Edit, 4 months later: As time goes on, the joystick portion becomes less and less accurate and drifts badly.I'd drop my rating down to a 2 if I could. Good price, but not very rugged at all.

Gamecube Console Black

Okay, first off, I'm a girl. I know a lot of people are under the impression that that piece of information excludes me from being a serious gamer, but come on... welcome to the year 2004! That aside, I must say that I have had experience with all three consoles. Here's my comparison.

X-box: by no means can you bash the graphics or the innovation behind this system. The games, while usually featuring unfamiliar characters, are superb. My own personal favorite was the X-box version of Prince of Persia: Sand of time, which I have played for every system available. The disadvantage: for a 20 year old out on their own, the price can be a bit steep for a system rivaled by two others with their own pros and cons. Rating: 3 stars.

Playstation 2: best value for someone looking for options outside of the gamers world. Like other reviewers noted, has the only rights to the GTA series, and in my opinion has a superior controller setup to the other two. Graphics are excellent, but not as good as Gamecube or X-box. Pricing is midrange, and also is compatable with most DVD's, making it space and money efficient. Rating: 4 stars.

Gamecube: easily portable, excellent graphics and game selection (Zelda, Mario, Starfox... the list goes on and on), and lowest priced game system available. While the game selection is not as large as with the other consoles, the selections available are sure to keep you occupied for a while. Overall, pricing and other factors considered, I rate this 5 stars.

While I would have purchased this console solely for The Legend of Zelda: the Windwaker (which was slightly disappointing compared to Ocarina of Time), I find it the best value for what is available.

GameCube Compatible Controller Indigo

My review from a few months ago read:

"These are a great price and I bought 2 for my Wii. Both arrived quickly and worked fine."

NOW...one of the controllers won't allow anything to be directed to the left. So, unless you like moving in circles to the right all day, this thing is useless. I just tossed it in the garbage. I might be able to understand if we used it a lot, but my two girls are very gentle with the things and we rarely use the gamecube controllers as they prefer to use the Wii controllers.

Wish I could get my money back for the crappy thing.

Need for Speed: Shift

Need for Speed: Shift

By M. Laing (Murrieta, CA) -  reviews

I purchased the game after going off the IGN review (9.0 out of 10). I would not rate it that high personally. The game takes getting used to. I admit to liking the NFSU games, but knew this one was different and closer to a GT racing sim than the earlier titles. Anyway, I think that the game performs well in some areas, not so in others. The load times are ridiculous. The same questions come up on each time you start the game. With the HD in place there should not be such long load times between races and saving. There is no menu option that I see to quit mid-race. Hopefully the cars will be more stable and easier to control at high speeds as you advance through the tiers. The BMW M3 on tier 2 is way too loose even after all upgrades. I probably need to do more tuning but it's hard to keep on the courses. I suppose this is to lend to the more realistic simulation but it's frustrating at times. Drift mode is an adventure; I've never been great at drift racing but the initial impression here is that it's almost prohibitive in it's difficulty. I haven't found the right balance of throttle and brake yet. It seems overly sensitive compared to the previous titles. While it shouldn't be totally easy, it takes a lot of getting used to and I find it annoying at times.

The courses are pretty awesome although many have already been done in the GT series. The graphics are very good. I have not noticed the high speed blurring as mentioned in other reviews, maybe because my car tops out at 150 or so. We'll see when we get into the high end cars if it is noticable.

I typically don't do the online racing because of the issues with rewarding aggressive/dirty tactics in all online play so I can't speak to that experience yet.

I think it is a disservice to gamers that EA did not make it compatible with the racing wheels out there. How does anybody make a driving sim that doesn't work with a wheel controller?

In spite of it's flaws (maybe they are my flaws, not the game?), I am enjoying the game so far. I am giving it a 7.5 after limited game play. Maybe when my skills improve I will look at it differently. Not a bad effort.

good and comfortable controller (better than the N64 ones were). It works much better than a 3rd party controller, such as madcatz. If you plan to, or have played "super smash brothers melee"(great game) you will notice how much easier it is to pull-off moves with a nintendo brand controller. It is worth the extra money, no-matter what it says on the third party company's package (dont be fooled by a third party controllers extra button: the "M" button, it does nothing because a nintendo brand controller doesnt have one and developers design games according to nintendo brand controllers). I never use my cheap madcatz controller (madcatz controller often malfunctions as well), this one is much better, and black goes with everything. My rule of thumb: Nintendo brand game accessories are more reliable, longer lasting, eye appealing and overall better than third party distributers. *please vote yes if I helped*

A Kid's Review

Game boy: no color and lame graphics. Game boy Color: Improved graphics and color. Game boy Advanced... The coolest portable system in the whole universe!!!!!! Let me tell you about this GBA. Some magizine told a lie about " It couldn't play game boy or GBC games". But that's [a lie], it can play them. Also SOME game boy color games can have more secrets if you play them on GBA. For example if you play Legend of Zelda oracle of ages [or seasons] there is an Advance shop that you can't get on GBC, and in Wendy every Witch's way there are 3 secret levels you can't get on GBC. The graphics of GBA games are breathtaking. The gaphics are equal to the SNES, also there are some SNES games they put on GBA like Super Mario World, Prehistoric Man, Breath of fire 1 and 2 and more games, three popular games of PS1 are Rayman Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the dragon. Games like Golden sun, Peter pan Wario land 4, Frogger, Mario cart, Advanced wars, the 3 syooges[!],and more are on the GBA. You can connect the GBA to the cell phone to get Internet access! BUY IT YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!!!

It's straight up a standard Gamecube controller but colored to match a Wii. The cord for it seems to be about 10ft which (if I recall correctly) is much longer than the original Gamecube controller's cord was. I'd recommend it for anyone who needs a Gamecube controller in general or if you're looking for one for the Wii.
